RALEIGH, NC. -The Carolina Hurricanes announced Friday afternoon that forward Max Pacioretty has been placed on injured reserve.

Playing in just his fifth game of the season
after suffering an Achilles tendon tear over the summer
, the 34-year-old winger needed to be helped off the ice after suffering a non-contact injury with just 19 seconds to go in
Thursday's 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour said following Friday's practice at Invisalign Arena that he did not have any update, and that the team is expecting to know more in a few days after he is evaluated further.

Carolina's #67 had produced three goals while playing in just three full games with the team. Pacioretty left last Thursday's win over Columbus during the first period with a lower-body injury unrelated to his previous Achilles tear. Then sitting out both Saturday and Sunday, he made his return to the lineup at PNC Arena last night.
"After seeing how much work he'd put in to get to this point it's a bummer]. We're thinking about him right now. It's really tough to see," Brady Skjei offered.
Per NHL Injured Reserve rules, Pacioretty will not be eligible to play in games for at least seven days.
The Canes will take on the New York Islanders Saturday night at UBS Arena, and then have Sunday off. They'll return to practice on Monday at Inivsalign Arena.
