NEW YORK - The Carolina Hurricanes held a de facto morning skate for Saturday's matinee faceoff against the New York Rangers on Friday at Chelsea Piers.
Not practicing with the team was forward Elias Lindholm, who left Thursday's game in Boston with a lower-body injury and did not return.
"He's back in treatment. I'll get an update when we get back to MSG," head coach Bill Peters said. "When I saw him this morning he sounded optimistic, but when I meet with Pete we'll be realistic and make a decision."

An ailment that keeps Lindholm out of the lineup would further dent the Canes' forward depth. The team is already without Jordan Staal (concussion), and Bryan Bickell, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis hasn't played since late October.
"The opportunity is staring guys right in the face. With the injury to Jordan Staal, it's an unbelievable opportunity for people to step up on the power play, step up on the penalty kill and step up on big, important faceoffs," Peters said. "Now if Lindy's out, somebody else gets an unbelievable opportunity. The important thing is, we're all going to be watching and we're going to see what you do with your opportunity. Capitalize on your opportunity."
If Lindholm can't go, Andrej Nestrasil, a healthy scratch on Thursday, would figure to draw back into the lineup. Peters said a decision on a starting goaltender - bearing in mind that Saturday's game is the front half of a back-to-back set that concludes on Sunday evening at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning - was still to be made.
MSG → Chelsea Piers → MSG
Chelsea Piers is a great rink, one of the most unique practice locations in the league. But it also doesn't have private dressing rooms, so the Hurricanes first changed at Madison Square Garden, which is hosting the Timberwolves and Knicks tonight, before bussing over to the pier. Once at Sky Rink, the Canes put on their skates and hit the ice for a 45-minute session.

"Fantastic," Peters said of the practice locale. "Look at the skyline out there. It's a great view. It's outstanding."
After the skate, the Canes took their skates off and again hopped on a bus, otherwise fully outfitted for hockey, to head back to MSG.
"Keep the motor running, and then we play a 1:00 game," Peters said of the decision to practice. "I'd rather, especially with a young group that benefits from staying on the ice, get a quick skate in and then know we're ready for 1:00 tomorrow."
