RALEIGH, NC — Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that defenseman Niclas Wallin will undergo surgery on his right shoulder on Saturday at Rex Hospital. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Marty Isbell of Raleigh Orthopaedic and Wallin is expected to miss three to four weeks.
Wallin, 32, has totaled one assist and 12 penalty minutes in 11 games played with the Hurricanes this season. The Boden, Sweden, native has missed two games due to a groin injury, and has plus/minus rating of +2 for Carolina. The Hurricanes’ fourth-round selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Wallin has notched 14 goals and 33 assists (47 points) and 281 penalty minutes in 351 career regular-season NHL games, all with Carolina.
