RALEIGH, NC – Doug Warf, Vice President of Marketing for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced the opening of a new section of the Carolina Hurricanes “Center Ice” exhibit at the Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh. The addition will be unveiled at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The exhibit will now feature a fully accessible announcers’ booth, real cameras capturing kids in action on the popular synthetic ice rink, additional exercise equipment and a vibrant new mural anchoring the healthy, active theme. Hurricanes’ television play-by-play announcer, John Forslund, will join Stormy and members of the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad to help celebrate the exhibit.

In October 2012, Marbles was one of two organizations to receive two-year, $100,000 GOAL (Growing Opportunities and Leaders) grants from the Carolina Hurricanes Kids 'N Community Foundation. Last year’s GOAL Grant allowed Marbles to install a healthy activity area that encourages kids to “train like a Cane.” It marked the first year in which the Foundation awarded GOAL grants, which are designed to allow the Foundation to make a more noticeable impact for deserving organizations. GOAL grants are distributed each fall to two children’s non-profits that focus on the health or educational needs of underserved populations. In year one, two organizations received two-year commitments of $100,000 ($50,000 per year), and two organizations received three-year, $150,000 commitments. Six non-profits will receive GOAL Grants on an annual basis – a total annual community investment of $300,000.

Marbles Kids Museum, which encourages children to learn new things through imagination, discovery and play, used the GOAL grant funding to expand the “Center Ice” exhibit in “Power2Play.” The exhibit will also now include CanesVision and exercise components that teach children how to train and play like the Hurricanes. The grant also allowed Marbles to increase the number of children being served through its outreach program.
