Hurricanes recall Keith Aucoin from Albany

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that left wing Andrew Ladd underwent an emergency appendectomy Thursday at Raleigh’s Rex Hospital. Dr. Tucker Kline performed the surgery and Ladd is now at home recovering. Carolina has recalled forward Keith Aucoin from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League to fill Ladd’s roster spot.

Ladd, 21, is in his second NHL season with the Hurricanes and has three goals, two assists (5 points) and 23 penalty minutes in 27 games this season. In his 2005-06 rookie campaign, the Maple Ridge, B.C., native had six goals and five assists (11 points) in 29 regular-season games, and two goals and three assists (5 points) while playing in 17 of Carolina’s 25 postseason games en route to winning the Stanley Cup. Ladd (6’2”, 201 lbs.) played 25 games in the AHL last season, registering 11 goals and eight assists during his time with the Hurricanes’ top minor-league affiliate. The Hurricanes drafted Ladd in the first round, fourth overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

This marks Aucoin’s second recall to Carolina this season. The 28-year old played in one game during his initial recall in October, and has one assist in eight career NHL games. Aucoin currently ranks tied for 10th in the AHL in scoring, tied for seventh in the AHL in assists and leads all River Rats skaters with 28 points (10g, 18a) while playing in 20 games with Albany. The Waltham, Mass., native is in his second season with the Hurricanes organization after signing with the team as a free agent in August 2005.
