RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today made the following statement, after the conclusion of the 2011 NHL All-Star Weekend in Raleigh:
“I’d like to thank Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League for giving our city and our fans the opportunity to show the hockey world what a tremendous home we have in the Triangle.
“Many people came together to make All-Star Weekend what it was, starting with Dave Olsen, Doug Warf, Scott Dupree, Alison Barnwell and the Local Organizing Committee and including civic and business leaders across our area. Our local media also played a huge role in the build-up to the event, and we thank members of the local and national media for their kind words during and after All-Star Weekend.
“Most of all, I want to commend the Caniacs and the people of the Triangle, who were gracious and welcoming hosts for each and every one of our visitors from around the world. Everyone came together to make All-Star Weekend what it was, and we’ve never been more proud to call North Carolina home.”
“I would like to sincerely thank the All-Star players and coaches for their efforts in making the 2011 NHL All-Star Weekend a tremendous success. To a man, each was gracious with his time and energy surrounding all of the Weekend’s events, from Fan Fair and the Fantasy Draft, to the Skills Competition and the Game.
“All-Star Weekend is an opportunity for the NHL and its fans to celebrate these tremendous athletes, and pay tribute to their accomplishments. This group comprised the best in our game, and without them the Weekend and its success would not have been possible.”
