Eight players will join Albany River Rats camp next week

RALEIGH, NC — Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has trimmed its training camp roster to 37 players. Mike Angelidis, Joe Barnes, Vince Bellissimo, Brett Carson, Kevin Estrada, Craig Kowalski, Kevin Nastiuk and Stephen Peat will report to the Albany River Rats’ (American Hockey League) training camp next week. Harrison Reed, the Hurricanes’ second choice (93rd overall, 3rd round) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, has been returned to his junior club, the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League.
The Hurricanes travel to Nashville today for tonight’s 8 p.m. (ET) exhibition game against the Predators at Gaylord Entertainment Center, and will then travel to Columbus in advance of Sunday’s 6 p.m. (ET) exhibition game against the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Carolina suffered a 5-4 loss in its first exhibition game against Nashville at the RBC Center on Friday night. The Hurricanes return to the RBC Center on Friday, Sept. 29, against Columbus for their second of two home exhibition games.
The Carolina Hurricanes will open the 2006-07 season at the RBC Center on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. against the Buffalo Sabres.
