Raleigh, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes announced today team members will take part in a hockey clinic in conjunction with the National Hockey League and the Calgary Flames on Monday, November 29, 1999, from 4:30-5:30 at Chavis Park, which is part of the Raleigh Parks and Recreation System.

The clinic, which will be directed by Willie O’Ree, is part of the NHL’s Diversity Task Force program. A few players from both the Hurricanes and Flames will be on hand to assist O’Ree.

O’Ree, who was the first black player in the NHL, will be in Raleigh earlier in the day to talk with Hurricanes’ players as part of the NHL’s diversity program. O’Ree will actually start his day at the Sankore School in Raleigh, addressing seventh and eighth graders at 9:30 a.m. The Sankore School is located at 1629 Bennett Street.

Chavis Park is located on Home Street in Raleigh, which is roughly a half-mile from Memorial Auditorium.
