CENTER PLAYED IN HIS 1,000TH GAME LAST FRIDAY
RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 26, 2002) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager for the Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes announced today that the team will honor center and alternate captain Rod Brind’Amour prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks at RBC Center. Brind’Amour reached a major NHL career milestone when he played his 1,000th NHL game on Nov. 15 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Jim Gregory from the National Hockey League be on hand to present Brind’Amour with a special crystal piece in honor of the milestone. In addition, Rutherford will present Brind’Amour with a silver stick, the traditional team award for a player who reaches 1,000 NHL games. When he played his 1,000th game on Nov. 15, Brind’Amour became the 181st player in NHL history to reach the milestone and the third player to reach 1,000 games while playing for the Hurricanes franchise (Brian Propp on March 2, 1994 and Glen Wesley on Jan. 20, 2001).
The ceremony will begin slightly after 7:00 p.m. and prior to the game’s faceoff.
