, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will assign six players to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Hurricanes won back-to-back exhibition games this weekend, defeating the New York Islanders on Saturday in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the Ottawa Senators on Sunday in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Defenseman Trevor Carrick and forwards Brendan Woods, Sergey Tolchinsky and Phil Di Guiseppe have been assigned to Charlotte’s training camp, which opens on Tuesday. Goaltender Drew MacIntyre and forward Brody Sutter will be assigned to the Checkers on Tuesday, pending waivers. An updated Hurricanes training camp roster can be found here.
The Hurricanes’ training camp roster now stands at 27 players, and the maximum number permitted for the opening night roster is 23. The current camp roster is attached to this release. The team will practice on Monday at PNC Arena at noon, and sees its next game action on Wednesday when it hosts the Washington Capitals at PNC Arena at 7 p.m.
The Carolina Hurricanes begin the 2015-16 regular season at Nashville on Oct. 8, and will play their home opener against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, Oct. 10, at PNC Arena.
