Hurricanes to Assign Nine Players to Checkers

RALEIGH, NCRon Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will reassign nine players from its training camp roster to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. Francis also announced that the team has added forward Chad LaRose to the training camp roster on a professional tryout. An updated roster can be found here.

Defensemen Trevor Carrick, Dennis Robertson and Keegan Lowe and goaltender Daniel Altshuller were assigned directly to the Checkers. Forwards Ben Holmstrom, Justin Shugg, Greg Nemisz and Jared Staal will be assigned to Charlotte pending waivers. Forward Kyle Hagel, who has an AHL contract with Charlotte, has also been released from the Hurricanes’ camp.

LaRose totaled 180 points (85g, 95a) and 286 penalty minutes in 508 career NHL games with Carolina between 2005-06 and 2012-13. He did not play professional hockey last season, but signed an AHL contract with Charlotte this summer.
