RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 9, 2002) – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the team has signed defenseman Sean Curry to a three-year contract. Curry is currently in Lowell with Carolina’s American Hockey League affiliate.

“Sean is a big, strong defenseman who moves the puck well,” said Karmanos. “He has worked hard over the last year to improve his game and now it is time for him to continue his development at the professional level.”

Curry (6’4’’, 230 lbs.) had 29 points (10g, 19a) in 60 games with Tri-City and Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League last season. The Burnsville, Minn. native tallied 46 points (15g, 31) and 240 penalty minutes in a 132-game junior hockey career in the WHL. Curry, 20, was chosen by the Carolina Hurricanes in the seventh round (211th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
