RALEIGH, NCRon Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Joakim Nordstrom from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Nordstrom was assigned to Charlotte on Thursday for a conditioning stint, and played in the Checkers’ two games on Saturday and Sunday. He scored Charlotte’s second goal in the team’s 3-2 win on Sunday against Manitoba.

Nordstrom, 23, played in the Hurricanes’ first three games of the season before missing the last 11 due to a lower-body injury. In 2014-15, the Stockholm native earned three assists in 38 games on the NHL level with the Chicago Blackhawks and had 16 points (9g, 7a) in 23 AHL games for the Rockford IceHogs. He also appeared in three Stanley Cup playoff games to win his first career Stanley Cup. Nordstrom (6’1”, 189 lbs.) was Chicago’s third-round selection (90th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and has appeared in three NHL seasons with the Blackhawks and Hurricanes, totaling one goal and five assists (6 points) in 57 career NHL games.
