RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Derek Joslin from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Joslin, 24, had three assists in four games during his AHL conditioning stint with the Checkers. The Richmond Hill, Ont., native has played in 14 of Carolina’s 44 games this season, registering one goal and earning one assist (2 points), while averaging 15:55 of ice time per game. Joslin (6’1”, 210 lbs.) is in his fifth full professional season and has scored three goals and earned 11 assists in 84 career NHL games with San Jose and Carolina. He was drafted by the Sharks in the fifth round, 149th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, and acquired by Carolina via trade in February 2011.
