Ladd Placed on Injured Reserve; Vasicek to Undergo Knee Surgery

RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled left wing Chad LaRose from Lowell of the American Hockey League. LaRose is being recalled after left wing Andrew Ladd sustained a right knee injury in Saturday's game at Phoenix. Ladd has been placed on injured reserve to make room for LaRose on the Hurricanes' roster.

This marks LaRose's first career recall to the NHL. The 23-year-old Fraser, Mich., native is in his third professional season after the Hurricanes signed him as a free agent prior to the 2003-04 season. In 23 games with the Lock Monsters this season, LaRose (5' 10", 181 lbs.) has 14 goals and 11 assists (25 points), ranking him first on the team in goals and second in points. LaRose posts a team-best plus-11 plus/minus rating, ranking him tied for sixth in the AHL. In six 2005 exhibition games with Carolina during training camp, LaRose scored two goals and had three assists (5 points), and posted a plus-2 rating.

Ladd (6' 2", 201 lbs.) will return to Raleigh on Sunday to undergo evaluation on his right knee by Dr. Douglas Martini of Cary Orthopedic. The 19-year-old rookie was recalled from Lowell on Nov. 20 and had four goals in seven games with Carolina.

In other Hurricanes injury-related news, center Josef Vasicek will undergo surgery to repair his injured left knee. Dr. Martini will perform Vasicek's surgery on Monday. Vasicek is expected to miss three to four months following the surgery.

The Hurricanes continue their five-game trip through the Pacific Division on Tuesday against Anaheim (10:30 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). Following games at Los Angeles on Thursday and San Jose on Saturday, the team will return to Raleigh for a five-game home stand beginning Dec. 13 against Chicago.
