RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that left wing Ryan Bayda has been reassigned to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. The Hurricanes’ roster now stands at 22 healthy players, with left wing Cory Stillman and defenseman Frantisek Kaberle on injured reserve as they recover from offseason surgeries.
Bayda, 25, appeared in three of Carolina’s five preseason games and registered a goal and two assists (3 points) to go along with two penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating. The Saskatoon, Sask., native is entering his sixth professional season after signing as a free agent with the Hurricanes on Aug. 4. Bayda (5’11”, 185 lbs.) has scored seven goals and earned 13 assists (20 points) in 69 career NHL regular-season games with the Hurricanes. In 229 AHL regular-season games with Lowell and Manitoba, he has registered 45 goals and 100 assists (145 points).
The Carolina Hurricanes will open the 2006-07 season at the RBC Center on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. against the Buffalo Sabres.
