Players to join AHL affiliate for Saturday’s game; Ladd expected to rejoin Carolina on Sunday

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team reassigned center David Gove and left wing Andrew Ladd to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey league (AHL). The players will join Carolina’s top minor-league affiliate for its 2 p.m. game today at Tsongas Arena in Lowell against the Albany River Rats.

Ladd, the Hurricanes’ first-round draft pick (4th overall) in 2004, is in his first professional season and has played in 16 games with the Hurricanes, recording six goals and two assists (8 points). He was initially recalled from Lowell on Nov. 20, and played in seven games with the Hurricanes before a knee injury sidelined him for 18 games. Ladd began the season with the Lock Monsters and scored seven goals and added four assists (11 points) in 15 AHL games before his recall. The 20-year-old Maple Ridge, B.C., native is expected to rejoin the Hurricanes on Sunday for their 1 p.m. game at the TD Banknorth Garden against the Boston Bruins.

Gove, 27, was recalled from Lowell on Jan. 30 and made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes at Montreal on Feb. 1. The Centerville, Mass., native recorded his first NHL point, an assist, in the Hurricanes 8-2 win that night. He was a healthy extra for the Hurricanes on Feb. 3 at New Jersey. In 43 games with the Lock Monsters this season, Gove has recorded 12 goals and 15 assists to rank third among all Lowell skaters with 27 points. In five AHL seasons with Grand Rapids, San Antonio, Utah, Providence and Lowell he has totaled 139 points (56g, 79a) in 277 games.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue a four-game road swing on Sunday against the Boston Bruins (1 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network). The road swing wraps up on Feb. 9 when the Hurricanes travel to Tampa Bay before returning to the RBC Center to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 10.
