Ward, Wallin to attend downtown concert; Adams and Boulerice to answer phones for telethon

Carolina Hurricanes players will take part in a pair of fundraising efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on Saturday and Tuesday. Defensemen Aaron Ward and Niclas Wallin will sign autographs at the Budweiser Raleigh Downtown Live event on Saturday. Forwards Kevyn Adams and Jesse Boulerice will take part in WRAL’s Hurricane Katrina Relief Telethon on Tuesday night, taking donations from callers over the telephone.

Budweiser Raleigh Downtown Live, a joint partnership between Deep South Entertainment and the City of Raleigh Convention Center, is sponsored by Curtis Media Group and Budweiser. It will be held Saturday at Moore Square, which is located at the corner of Blount and Martin streets in downtown Raleigh. The event begins at 2 p.m. and concludes following fireworks around 11 p.m. The American Red Cross will be on hand to accept cash-only donations for the relief efforts in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast. Ward and Wallin will sign autographs beginning at 3 p.m. Hurricanes mascot Stormy and members of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina Storm Squad will also be in attendance. Saturday Night Special, featuring four original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, will perform at the free concert event, along with The Silos, Little Texas and Jason Michael Carroll. WRAL-TV will host a Hurricanes Relief Special beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night. The television program will air from 7 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., and the telethon itself will continue until 10 p.m. The program will raise money for the American Red Cross’ relief efforts at the Gulf Coast and draw attention to various ways the public can help.

Adams will also attend StormAid at Womble Park in Holly Springs on Saturday, Sept. 10. The event, which will raise money for the American Red Cross, includes live music and will take place from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Adams will sign autographs from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. For more information about StormAid, please call (919) 557-2901.
