HURRICANES' PLAYERS TO PARTICIPATE IN DUKE CHILDREN'S CLASSIC

(May 11, 2000) – The Carolina Hurricanes will have five players participating in the Duke Children’s Classic on Thursday and Friday, May 18-19, 2000, at the Croasdaile Country Club in Durham and the Governors Club in Chapel Hill. Bates Battaglia, Jeff Daniels, Ron Francis, Steve Halko and Sandy McCarthy will represent the Hurricanes in the pro-am portion of this tournament. The players will be chosen for either course on Wednesday night.

The Carolina Hurricanes are a platinum sponsor of the Duke Children’s Classic for the fourth consecutive year. The Hurricanes’ community relations and youth hockey departments will be set up in the KidZone section with the Hurricanes’ Slapshot machine on Saturday and Sunday at Croasdaile. Stormy will also be on hand on Saturday to entertain the fans in attendance.

The Duke Children’s Classic is a four-day Celebrity Players Tour sanctioned event with a $200,000 purse. The first two days feature a pro-am with some of the best-known athletes and entertainers in the world. On Saturday and Sunday, the golf professionals take to the course alone in a two-day medal play competition.
