RALEIGH, NC (February 14, 2000) – Jim Rutherford, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Southeast Division Champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the team will face-off against the Tampa Bay Lightning at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night, February 19, 2000, at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The game was originally scheduled to start at 7:30, however, the start time has been pushed back due to the North Carolina State University Men’s Basketball game against Duke University earlier in the day. The first 10,000 fans who enter the arena for the Hurricanes’ game will receive a T-shirt courtesy of Nortel Networks.
“By moving the game back one hour, we ensure a smooth transition for both our fans and our arena staff,” stated Rutherford. “This will result in yet another extremely busy day for our arena staff and employees.”
Saturday’s doubleheader is the second time this season that the Entertainment and Sports Arena will host a North Carolina State University basketball game and a Carolina Hurricanes game in the same day. On Saturday, January 22, 2000, the Hurricanes hosted the Buffalo Sabres in the afternoon and the Wolfpack played Georgia Tech that night. In all, over 36,000 sports fans traveled to the Entertainment and Sports Arena on that doubleheader to cheer on their respective teams.
This weekend’s doubleheader will present a different challenge from the January date since the venue will be changed from basketball to hockey.
