INVITATIONAL STREET HOCKEY TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD AT THE ENTERTAINMENT AND SPORTS ARENA
RALEIGH, NC (March 24, 2000) -- Beginning on Saturday, March 25, the Carolina Hurricanes will host the 2000 Canes Street Stormers Invitational Tournament in the East Parking Lot of the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The two-day street hockey tournament showcases participants from the CANES STREET STORMERS program in which 15 teams made up of 11 players compete.
CANES STREET STORMERS, which operates in conjunction with the NIKE/NHL grass roots street hockey project, provides sponsorship for street hockey equipment and an affiliation with the Carolina Hurricanes for schools, community centers, and YMCAs throughout North Carolina. In its second year, CANES STREET STORMERS has helped establish 33 program centers in the state.
The 2000 Canes Street Stormers Hockey Tournament is separated into two age divisions (8-10 and 11-13) and will contain a round-robin format on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The top teams from Saturday advance to the championship round on Sunday beginning at 9:00 a.m. to determine the tournament winner. Following the tournament’s conclusion on Sunday, the Carolina Hurricanes continue their chase toward the Stanley Cup Playoffs, hosting the New York Islanders at the Entertainment and Sports Arena at 1:30 p.m. The Hurricanes are currently three points behind the Buffalo Sabres for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with eight games remaining in the regular season. Carolina hosts Buffalo at the Entertainment and Sports Arena on Monday, March 27.
