RALEIGH, NC (February 1, 2001) – Jim Cain, President and Chief Operating Officer for the National Hockey League Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that single-game tickets for the team’s home game against Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, March 23 are sold-out. Limited quantities of tickets for the game are available only through season ticket or partial-season ticket packages.
Single-game tickets are still available on a limited basis for the Hurricanes game against the Penguins on April 8 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, as well as all other Hurricanes home games for the remainder of the 2000-01 regular season.
Single-game tickets for the remainder of the 2000-01 season went on sale this morning at 10:00 a.m. Within 90 minutes, the Hurricanes sold-out their single-game allotment for the Penguins match-up on March 23 – Mario Lemieux’s first-ever game in North Carolina. Fans interested in prorated season ticket packages or the Hurricanes stretch-drive mini-plan should call the Carolina Hurricanes at (888) NHL-TIX-1. The stretch-drive mini-plan includes both games against the Pittsburgh Penguins (Friday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m.) as well as games against the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday, February 16; the Boston Bruins on Sunday, February 18; the Southeast Division rival Washington Capitals on Saturday, February 24 and Friday, March 30; and the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, March 21.
Lemieux, who returned to the ice December 19 after a 3 ½ year retirement, was today named the NHL Player of the Month for January, beating out Carolina’s Jeff O’Neill and Arturs Irbe, who earned honorable mention for the award. Lemieux, who holds seven NHL scoring records, had 25 points (14g, 11a) in the month of January. Before his retirement, he won six scoring titles, three Most Valuable Player awards, two Conn Smythe Trophies as the playoff MVP, and the Calder Trophy as the 1984-85 rookie of the year.
