TEAM ROSTER REDUCED TO 33 PLAYERS
RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 26, 2002) – Jim Rutherford, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced that the team has completed its second round of cuts in preparation for the start of the 2002-2003 season.
Seven players have been assigned to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. After beginning training camp on September 15th with 60 players, the Hurricanes roster now stands at 33.
The players assigned to the Hurricanes’ top minor league affiliate in Lowell were goaltender Randy Petruk; defenseman Ryan Bast; and forwards Mike Watt, Ryan Murphy, Damian Surma, Kaspars Astashenko and Tomas Kurka. The Lock Monsters opened their training camp on September 22.
Carolina returned to Raleigh on Wednesday night after earning a 3-0 exhibition victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Hurricanes resume training camp practices with an 11:30 a.m. skate at the RBC Center today. Carolina will host a pair of preseason games at the RBC Center this weekend, facing off against the Philadelphia Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and the Washington Capitals at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
