HURRICANES ASSIGN FIVE PLAYERS TO LOWELL OF AHL

ROSTER REDUCED TO 23 PLAYERS

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 5, 2002) – Jim Rutherford, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced that the team has assigned five players to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. After beginning training camp on September 15th with 60 players, the Hurricanes roster now stands at 23, the maximum number for the opening night roster.

The players assigned to the Hurricanes’ top minor league affiliate in Lowell were forwards Jeff Heerema and Craig MacDonald, defensemen Tomas Malec and Nikos Tselios and goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier. The Lock Monsters opened their training camp on September 22.

The Hurricanes play their final preseason game tonight as they travel to Atlanta to face the Thrashers at 5 p.m. at Philips Arena. Carolina opens the NHL regular season on Wednesday night at the RBC Center against the New York Rangers at 8 p.m.
