Hurricanes Announce St. Baldrick's Promotion

by Ken Preston / Carolina Hurricanes
RALEIGH, NC – Doug Warf, Senior Director of Marketing for the Carolina Hurricanes and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced the team’s plans to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and raise money for childhood cancer research. In conjunction with Radio 96.1, the Hurricanes are offering fans free tickets to their Feb. 23 game against the Anaheim Ducks if they are willing to have their locks shorn for St. Baldrick’s prior to the game.

In an effort to encourage Hurricanes fans to support St. Baldrick’s, the first 200 fans to shave their heads prior to the team’s game on Feb. 23, will receive four tickets to that night’s game and have their picture taken with members of the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. and running until 6:45 p.m., Ron the Ref and an on-air personality from Radio 96.1 will emcee as a team of stylists from SportClips shave heads on the RBC Center’s South Lawn. Fans can get more information and register early for the event by visiting

As in years past, Hurricanes television analyst Tripp Tracy will have his head shaved live at ice level during the second intermission. Television play-by-play announcer John Forslund will emcee the event, which will also be shown live during the Hurricanes’ game broadcast on FOX Sports Carolinas.

The Hurricanes have helped support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation since 2005-06, and this season marks the third consecutive year the team has hosted a shaving location. Last year’s event saw more than 150 fans shave their heads to show solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during cancer treatments. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.
