RALEIGH, NC (April 6, 2000) – Jim Cain, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today the team will host a “Fan Appreciation Day” during the Hurricanes’ final 1999-2000 regular season home game at the Entertainment and Sports Arena on Sunday, April 9, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. against the Atlanta Thrashers. The first 10,000 fans will receive Hurricanes hats sponsored by Dodge as they enter the building, and team posters sponsored by GlaxoWelcome will be given to fans on the way out. There will be numerous giveaways during the game. “Fan Appreciation Day” will be highlighted by the jersey giveaway that will take place at the conclusion of the game. Twenty-three lucky fans will participate in the post-game ceremony and receive a game-worn jersey from a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.
“This will be a great day for our fans and our team,” stated Cain. “We are celebrating our team’s first season in Raleigh and expressing our gratitude to our fans before, during, and after our game with the Atlanta Thrashers. This has been an exciting regular season for our organization and our fans. ”
Prior to the game, the Hurricanes will identify the One-Millionth Fan to walk through the turnstiles of the Entertainment and Sports Arena since its opening on October 29, 1999. Once identified, the lucky fan will receive on-ice seats to the game in addition to several other prizes. The one-millionth fan will also receive two season tickets for the Carolina Hurricanes, North Carolina State University Wolfpack men’s basketball, and Carolina Cobras for the 2000-2001 season.
In addition, Stormy will perform his Hoop of Fire jump prior to the game. Also, t-shirts and Frisbees will be tossed into the crowd at the conclusion of the jersey exchange.
