RALEIGH, NC—Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the Hurricanes have agreed to terms with defenseman/left wing Wade Brookbank on a one-year contract. The deal will pay Brookbank $500,000 on the NHL level and $100,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level. Brookbank, 29, split the 2006-07 season between the Boston Bruins and Providence and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. In seven games with Boston, the Lanigan, Sask., native tallied one goal and 15 penalty minutes. Brookbank tallied one goal and 131 penalty minutes in 43 AHL games with Providence and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2006-07.
Brookbank (6’4’’, 225 lbs.) has played 68 career NHL games with Nashville, Vancouver and Boston, totaling four goals and two assists (6 points) and 229 penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut during the 2003-04 with Nashville and set his NHL career-high with 133 penalty minutes in 29 games with Nashville and Vancouver that season. In 206 career AHL games during five seasons, he has totaled two goals, 16 assists (18 points) and 830 penalty minutes, including a career-high 337 penalty minutes with Grand Rapids in 2001-02.
