Number one goaltender signed to one-year deal
RALEIGH, N.C. – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Kevin Weekes on a one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not announced.
“Kevin has solidified himself as our number one goaltender,” said Rutherford. “We have confidence that he will perform at the highest level for our team this season.”
Weekes (6’ 0’’, 195 lbs.) completed his sixth NHL season in 2002-03 with a record of 14-24-9 and a goals-against average of 2.55 with five shutouts. Acquired from Tampa Bay on March 5, 2002 in exchange for Chris Dingman and Shane Willis, Weekes has a 3.04 career goals-against average in 211 games with Carolina, Tampa Bay, the NY Islanders, Vancouver and Florida. The Toronto native was a second-round draft pick (41st overall) for the Panthers in 1993. Weekes, 28, played eight playoff games for Carolina in 2002, compiling a record of 3-2 with a 1.62 goals-against average and two shutouts.
