Carolina chooses Hurme in waiver draft, trades him to Thrashers for fourth-round pick

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 3, 2003) – Jim Rutherford, President / General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired a fourth-round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for goaltender Jani Hurme. The Hurricanes selected Hurme in the NHL Waiver Draft Friday afternoon.

Carolina will complete its 2003 exhibition schedule with a home-and-home, back-to-back set with Washington beginning today at MCI Center and concluding Saturday at the RBC Center.

The Hurricanes open their seventh season in North Carolina on Oct. 9 at Florida, before returning to the RBC Center for their home opener, Saturday, Oct. 11 against defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey.
