The Hurricanes will play six of their 12 games in October at PNC Arena, including matchups against the last two Stanley Cup champions, Los Angeles (10/11) and Chicago (10/15). Tilts against Philadelphia (10/6) and Pittsburgh (10/28) – rivals from the newly-created Metropolitan Division – also highlight the team’s opening-month schedule.
Carolina will play nine of its 14 games in November at home, including a season-long, five-game home stand from Nov. 5-15, as Philadelphia, the New York Islanders, Minnesota, Colorado and Anaheim visit Raleigh. The Hurricanes close out the second month of the season with a day-after-Thanksgiving meeting with the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 29.
December will see the Hurricanes play eight of 14 games on the road, including a four-game trip from Dec. 9-14. Home games against Columbus (12/23) and Pittsburgh (12/27) will bookend the NHL’s three-day holiday break. Carolina will wrap up 2013 with the return of its New Year’s Eve game, this year against the Montreal Canadiens.
After the calendar turns to 2014, the Hurricanes will play 18 games from Jan. 2-Feb. 8 prior to the NHL taking an extended break as players participate in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Carolina will have a four-game home stand from Jan. 31-Feb. 8, prior to the Olympic break.
The Hurricanes will embark on a four-game road trip following the Olympic break, and will play their first post-break home game on March 7 against the New York Rangers. Carolina will round-out the regular season with seven games in April, including five against Metropolitan Division opponents.
In all, the Hurricanes will play 20 sets of back-to-back games during the 2013-14 season, 18 of which involve travel.
