Huricanes Active Ryan, Assign Him to Albany

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated forward Michael Ryan from injured reserve and assigned him to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. Ryan has missed all 33 of Carolina’s games this season after suffering a concussion in an exhibition game against the Atlanta Thrashers on Sept. 21.

Ryan, 29, has played in 83 career regular-season NHL games with Carolina and Buffalo, totaling seven goals and eight assists (15 points). Originally signed as a free agent by Carolina on Oct. 31, 2008, he skated in 18 games with the Hurricanes in 2008-09. The Boston, MA, native has played 250 career AHL games with Rochester and Albany, totaling 82 goals and 82 assists (164 points). Ryan was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
