The rest of the 2010-11 schedule won’t be released until Tuesday at noon, but we’ve been given the green light to identify the North American home opener for the Hurricanes – Oct. 27 vs. the Washington Capitals at 7 p.m.
Obviously that’s quite a bit later than usual, but the European Premiere in Helsinki and the standard mid-October road trip due to the North Carolina State Fair apply. The Canes will have played seven regular season games prior to the first home contest (technically the second game vs. Minnesota in Helsinki on Oct. 8 is a “home” game, but you get the picture).
As for the schedule release, we’re planning to have all the usual goodies ready for you by noon, including the PDF calendar, Outlook and iCal downloads, etc. I’m not sure that the Infuzer download will be ready by then for those of you that use it, but it shouldn’t be too long if not. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Infuzer works like an Outlook download but it automatically updates with final scores, links to recaps and promotional details as we get them. Worth a look if you haven’t tried it.
The schedule release marks the beginning of a busy week around here, with the NHL draft beginning Friday at 7 p.m. eastern. Just as a heads up, I’m planning to host a live chat from the floor of the Staples Center during the first round and probably another one before that to warm up and answer some of your questions, so be on the lookout for those.
