– Jon Chase, Director of Community Relations and Promotions for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team’s January 2014 Hurricanes Community Day event, Hockey with the Boys & Girls Club, is set for Tuesday, Jan. 14. Hurricanes players Brett Bellemore
and Drayson Bowman
will participate in the event that will take place at the Washington Boys & Girls Club, located at 1000 Fayetteville St. in Raleigh.
Beginning at 4 p.m., members of the Hurricanes staff will run two groups of 20 Boys & Girls Club participants through a rotation of games. At 4:30 p.m., Bellemore and Bowman will join the fun, meeting the kids, playing hockey, helping with homework and signing autographs.
The Wake County Boys & Girls Club is a GOAL (Growing Opportunities And Leaders) Grant recipient from the Kids ‘N Community Foundation’s Fall 2013 cycle. The GOAL Grant – one of six awarded by the Foundation – provides the Wake County Boys & Girls Club $150,000 in a three-year period ($50,000 per year).
As “The Heart of the Carolina Hurricanes,” the Kids ‘N Community Foundation strives to meet the health and educational needs of underserved populations in our community through programming and financial assistance to local, youth-oriented non-profit organizations. Annually, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation gives more than $500,000 in cash grants via its GOAL Grants, Game Changer Grants and Future Canes Grants. Every member of the Hurricanes organization is actively involved in community activities and the Hurricanes take great pride in the ability to have a positive impact in our state.
