— Paul Strand, Youth and Amateur Coordinator for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the schedule of events to take place at the RBC Center during the weekend of Jan. 29-31, as the Hurricanes team up with USA Hockey to celebrate the third annual Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by Reebok.

Hockey Weekend Across America is a three-day nationwide celebration of hockey at all levels as well as a way to expose the sport to new audiences. Each of the three days associated with Hockey Weekend Across America has a theme, including Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey on Friday, Bring a Friend to the Rink on Saturday and Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes on Sunday. This year, the Hurricanes’ participation in the celebration will be highlighted by a day-long series of games for area hockey players at the RBC Center on Sunday, Jan. 31.

On Friday, Jan. 29, themed “Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey,” the Carolina Hurricanes and Canes Youth and Amateur Hockey (CYAH) are encouraging students and teachers in local schools to show their hockey spirit by wearing their favorite youth or professional hockey jersey to school.

Hockey Weekend Across America continues on Saturday, Jan. 30, as the NHL sponsors “Bring a Friend to the Rink Day,” and Hurricanes fans are encouraged to celebrate the event with friends at Saturday night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the RBC Center.

On Sunday Jan. 31, in honor of both Hockey Weekend Across America and the RBC Center’s 10th anniversary, the Hurricanes will host hockey games and events for 10 consecutive hours, highlighting local teams within the youth and amateur community.
