Highwoods High-Rise to Perform as Canes Goal Light

RALEIGH, NC – Highwoods Properties and the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes today announced that the spire atop the Highwoods-developed PNC Plaza in downtown Raleigh will light up red for home games during the 2014-15 hockey season.

The spire atop the 33-story building, Raleigh’s tallest, has prominent visibility and will be awash in red LED lights throughout all Canes home games. The spire will feature a real-time, 15-second ‘swirling hurricane’ following each Canes goal and a two minute ‘celebratory sequence’ concluding each home win.

“We are excited to join with Highwoods Properties on this unique partnership,” said Don Waddell, president of Gale Force Sports and Entertainment. “We are honored that a Hurricanes goal light will now be a part of the Raleigh skyline for our home games, allowing people downtown a chance to celebrate simultaneously with the fans at PNC Arena.”

Ed Fritsch, president and chief executive officer of Highwoods Properties, said, “We are thrilled to create this fun identifier for when an opposing team is in our house and to partner with the Carolina Hurricanes organization to bring awareness of the game’s excitement to downtown Raleigh and Canes Country.”

“Our spire atop PNC Plaza is an iconic feature of Raleigh’s skyline and we want to expand its reach by celebrating select events. The Carolina Hurricanes are very important to our community and it is our hope that Ron Francis, Bill Peters and the team will keep our lighting system very busy!”
