Stormy and Storm Squad members to help business owners decorate tonight and Saturday

Doug Warf, Manager of Promotions and Fan Development for the Eastern Conference Champion Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that business owners in the Glenwood South area of Raleigh have invited the Hurricanes to help them decorate the area with a Hurricanes theme in honor of the team’s berth in the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals.

Hurricanes mascot Stormy will be joined by members of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina Storm Squad in distributing posters and creating window paintings along Glenwood South, one of the area’s premier business and entertainment districts. The decorating effort will take place during the First Friday celebration tonight from 7:45 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. and then again Saturday night between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The Stanley Cup Finals will begin on Monday, June 5, as the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Edmonton Oilers for the oldest and most treasured prize in all North American sports. Carolina scored a 4-2 victory in Thursday’s series-deciding Game 7 at the RBC Center to win their best-of-seven Eastern Conference Finals series against the Buffalo Sabres and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Hurricanes will host Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals at the RBC Center on Monday (8 p.m., OLN, Hurricanes Radio Network). Game 2 will follow on Wednesday before the teams travel to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4. If necessary, Game 5 will take place on Wednesday, June 14 at the RBC Center and a potential Game 7 would take place on Monday, June 19.
