More than 20 businesses’ windows in Glenwood South district to display Hurricanes images

RALEIGH, NC – Howard Sadel, Director of Marketing for the Eastern Conference Champion Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that more than 20 stores and restaurants in the Glenwood South district of Raleigh will display Hurricanes images in their windows in honor of the team’s trip to the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals. A list of businesses participating in the window decorating is below.

“The businesses in the Glenwood South district have come together to show their support of the Hurricanes in a truly visible way,” said Sadel. “Opening their window space to the Hurricanes is a great way to support the team’s and the region’s trip to the Stanley Cup Finals.”

ProMotion Mobile Media will begin installing Hurricanes images in storefront windows on Monday afternoon. The images are similar to those found on city buses’ windows, and will appear as a photograph from the street but will be transparent from inside the businesses.

Businesses participating in the window decorating include Lucky’s B’s, Hi5, Blue Martini, Zely & Ritz, Hibernian Pub, Napper Tandy’s, Armadillo Grill, Renaissance Design & Renovation, Rush Lounge, Stool Pigeons, Mellow Mushroom, Amra’s, The Carter Building, Bogart’s, Havana Deluxe, Aura, Rocky Top Hospitality, Wanda Oates Art Gallery and Heilos Coffee Company. Other businesses may be added but were not confirmed at the time of this release. An interactive map of the images’ locations will be available on Monday afternoon.

Lucky B’s co-owner and former Carolina Hurricanes forward Bates Battaglia will be available to the media at Lucky B’s at 3:30 p.m. on Monday to discuss his business’ participation in helping the Glenwood South area show the region’s support for the Hurricanes. Battaglia opened Lucky B’s in 2004 and has said he intends to remain in Raleigh following his playing career.

The Stanley Cup Finals will begin on Monday, June 5, as the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Edmonton Oilers for the oldest and most treasured prize in all North American sports. Carolina scored a 4-2 victory in Thursday’s series-deciding Game 7 at the RBC Center to win their best-of-seven Eastern Conference Finals series against the Buffalo Sabres and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Hurricanes will host Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals at the RBC Center on Monday (8 p.m., OLN, Hurricanes Radio Network). Game 2 will follow on Wednesday before the teams travel to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4. If necessary, Game 5 will take place on Wednesday, June 14 at the RBC Center and a potential Game 7 would take place on Monday, June 19.
