BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA TOOLS TO VICTORY
1:35 p.m.
TV's Mike Maniscalco, who I'll be joining on Hurricanes Live! tonight to help present the second annual Mikey Awards, details tonight's Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina three Tools to Victory.
1. Take the Game to the Flyers
Philadelphia has everything to play for so the expectation is that they will come out ready to play. The Hurricanes need to turn the table, be the aggressive team early and put the Flyers on their heels.
2. Screens
It doesn't matter if a team takes 40 shots on goal if there is no one to take away the goaltender's eyes. Get to the front of the net and be prepared to get a deflection or poke home a rebound.
3. Stay Connected
The Canes' team defense was way too loose, especially early, in Florida. The forwards and defensemen have to maintain their gaps and not stray out of position, especially against the likes of Claude Giroux.
CANES FACE OFF WITH FLYERS IN ROAD FINALE
12:00 a.m.
Game No. 81 brings the Carolina Hurricanes to Philadelphia, where they will face off with the Flyers in their final road game of the 2017-18 regular season.
The Hurricanes are 17-18-5 away from home this season, so Thursday's divisional match-up is a chance for the team to finish at .500 on the road. While otherwise meaningless in the standings for the Hurricanes, the Flyers will be fighting to maintain their playoff positioning. Just as the Canes faced a desperate Florida club on Monday, so too can they anticipate the same energy from the Flyers. Matching Philadelphia's intensity early will be key to the Canes staying competitive in their road finale.
"We have to. Otherwise you're going to get buried early," head coach Bill Peters said after his team practiced in Raleigh on Wednesday. "Florida did the same thing. I thought they came out and set the tempo of the game. They ended up with 19 shots in the first period - 2018-19 Season Ticket Memberships - First Goal Contest presented by Kayem
