Doug Bennett Joins Canes' Athletic Training Staff

RALEIGH, NC—Brian Tatum, Senior Director of Team Operations for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has hired Doug Bennett to serve as assistant athletic trainer. Bennett will work with Head Athletic Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach Peter Friesen in training and rehabilitating Hurricanes players.

Bennett has experience working with both professional and collegiate athletic teams, most recently serving at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as assisting the Hurricanes’ staff during the 2009-10 season as an Intern/Gameday Athletic Trainer. He has also served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL). His training background also includes the National Football League, as Bennett worked at the training camp for the Seattle Seahawks in 2003, and with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006. He also spent a year as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Penn State University, where he worked with the football program.   

Bennett is an active BOC Certified Athletic Trainer as well as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) as accredited by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In 2007, he earned his Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bennett earned his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Penn State University in 2004.
