What was considered a possibility over the weekend was confirmed Tuesday evening by the Carolina Hurricanes: forward Phil Di Giuseppe has suffered a concussion.
In the second period of Saturday’s game against Nashville, Di Giuseppe and Eric Nystrom were tangled up and rammed into the end boards. Di Giuseppe, though a bit slow to get to his feet, skated off to the room under his own power. He did not return to the game, and head coach Bill Peters confirmed afterward that he was put through the concussion protocol.
As is the case with concussions, the length of Di Giuseppe’s absence is yet undetermined. Brock McGinn was recalled from Charlotte in his stead. Di Giuseppe has tallied eight points (3g, 5a) in his first 14 career NHL games over the course of the last month.
