The Hurricanes are likely to have one lineup change for tonight’s game against Montreal, as Tim Conboy will play defense in place of the injured Joni Pitkanen.

The move is contingent on Conboy clearing re-entry waivers at noon. Because he had not yet cleared as of today’s morning skate, he was unable to participate, but was in the locker room afterwards and will be ready to do.

Coach Paul Maurice said that Pitkanen, who left Tuesday’s win over Tampa Bay with a lower-body injury, is unlikely to return for the team’s season finale in Boston Saturday afternoon.

“I would say he’s doubtful at this point,” said Maurice. “We’re not holding out a lot of hope for him to come back into the lineup.”

Cam Ward will get the start in goal both tonight and on Saturday. He did not start in the Tampa game, but was forced to enter the game in the second period following a lower-body injury to Manny Legace.

”He didn’t not play because he wasn’t feeling well,” said Maurice of Ward. “We thought we would probably play him in two out of the three just to test that back. At the end of the day, it might have been a perfect scenario, because that was a good test to sit through it, not play and then come in a little bit cold. To then get through the game healthy was a good sign for him.”

Despite having to leave that game and sit out Wednesday’s practice, Legace is healthy enough to play. He took the morning skate with the team today.

“Manny says he’s fine and it’s a go, and we trust him that,” said Maurice.
