Emily Cole, the wife of Hurricanes winger Erik Cole, is putting the finishing touches on a unique auction item, the Canes Christmas tree.
Emily and Brijet Whitney worked together to secure a 7 and a half foot artificial tree with loads of red, black and sliver ornaments, many of which have been signed by the team. There will be a running auction for the tree over the next five home games, ending on December 19, with all proceeds benefiting the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.
The tree has numerous red ornaments, many of which have been individually hand signed by the players on the current roster. The tree is also adorned with autographed hockey cards, donated by each player, from almost everyone on the team.
The tree will be on display at the Kids ‘N Community Foundation Silent Auction booth adjacent to section 129 on the main concourse. Bidding will open at tonight’s game and run through the 2nd intermission auction close-out of the game on Saturday, December 19. All proceeds from the auction of the tree will benefit the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.
A special thanks to Brijet and Emily for their work securing the tree and all of the trimmings. Also, thanks to Target for donating the tree and many of the ornaments to the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.
Led by Community Development Manager Doris Barksdale, the Carolina Hurricanes again donated turkeys to local shelters prior to Thanksgiving. A total of 60 turkeys were purchased by the Hurricanes and donated to the Salvation Army and the Helping Hands Mission.
Our entire Community Relations Department helped Doris pick up and deliver the turkeys around town Wednesday morning. For me, it definitely got Thanksgiving off on the right foot as the recipients of the turkey’s were truly thankful. It helps you remember that sometimes it is the small gestures that can make a huge difference.
