I hope you are able to join us Saturday afternoon at the Hibernian restaurant and pub in downtown Raleigh. Our overall goal for Saturday is to help the St. Baldrick’s Foundation raise money for children’s cancer research.
To help raise funds, at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon Dennis Seidenberg and Niclas Wallin will shave their heads for the second consecutive year while Tripp Tracy will be going for the hairless hat trick.
This marks the fourth year of our involvement with St. Baldrick’s that has seen shorn players and personalities like Aaron Ward, Cam Ward
and Chuck Kaiton. It is always a good time as the both the kid “barbers” and the players are a little nervous (professional barbers help clean-up the haircut after the kids have gotten things started).
The players are typically a little nervous because photos get taken like the ones I am including with this blog. I am not sure which I like more…Tripp’s Mohawk or Nic’s bald mullet.
The past three years we have held this event during a weekday morning or early afternoon due to our weekend schedules. However, this year provides a Saturday afternoon, so come down to the Hibernian and enjoy the experience in person.
Another cool aspect is that Connor Johnson will be assisting as a barber for the day. As you may remember, Connor just had Justin Williams and Matt Cullen over to his house to help break-in his Canes playroom. Two years ago, Connor was shaving Cam Ward
’s head as Connor had just started his treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Now, Connor has just finished his last treatment and will complete the full cycle by again shaving a Canes player’s head.
Also, Ryan Bayda has agreed to get in on the fun this year and he will be joining many of our youth hockey players from Raleigh Youth Hockey Association as they shave their heads on Sunday, March 1st at the Factory Ice House in Wake Forest.
