I think we all saw “it” last home game when the ‘Canes battled the Atlanta Thrashers to an overtime win. In those close games; the outcome often comes down to who wants to win more. The Canes definitely wore their hearts on their sleeves and proved that they take pride in their efforts on the ice.

Aside from the importance of winning games on the ice, February is also a month where the Hurricanes transfer their passion to the community. On Saturday, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation sold out of the Valentine’s Day mystery autographed “Heart of the Hurricanes” t-shirts. Each Hurricanes player took the time to sign these shirts last Friday to help us make these shirts even more unique and desirable.
This is a very important time of year for the Foundation because the second grant application deadline is quickly approaching on Feb. 28. Proceeds from the shirt sales will directly impact children in our community by being awarded to deserving non-profit children’s organizations. Thanks to all of you lucky Valentine’s out there, children and their families in our community will be positively impacted in the coming weeks.
Today (Monday) is also the start of the Carolina Ale House paper heart and magnet campaign. The campaign expanded into Fayetteville this year, so all eight locations are selling paper hearts for $1 and new “Hockey with Heart” magnets for $3. Last year, patrons at the Ale House locations helped raise over $6,000 for the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. If you're at a Cool Bars stop or just dropping in for lunch or dinner at any Ale House location, be sure to show your heart and purchase a paper heart or magnet to support the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.
Other ways to show your heart during the season…
- On Feb. 19, the Hurricanes players’ wives will be collecting diapers on the way into the RBC Center to support Hockey for Huggies. The drive runs from Feb. 14 up until puck drop on Feb. 19. You can make donations leading up to games in the VIP lobby (adjacent to the Time Warner Cable Box Office). In exchange for a diaper donation, you will receive a discounted ticket coupon for any March home Hurricanes game that takes place on a Monday through Thursday night in the lower level north/south seats or the balcony premier section. Click here for more information.
- Or, you can walk down the red carpet and attend the 6th annual charity Casino Night and Wine Tasting on Sunday, March 13 at the RBC Center. This annual fundraiser features a lineup of the entire Hurricanes roster, coaching staff, and front office executives for a night of Casino games, all in the name of charity. Tickets are $200 and they are all-inclusive in that the ticket gives you access to nearly 100 silent auction items, nearly 10 unique live auction items (including the highly coveted “trip with the team”), full-service bar and food, wine pouring stations, entertainment, and casino games. This is surely one night you don’t want to miss, so be sure to purchase your tickets now!
- Also, March 9 will be the culminating night for the USO of NC Military Drive. More details can be found here. Be sure to think about what you can donate to our military personnel serving our country both over seas and on home soil.
- Finally, March 16 will feature the last of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation’s holiday-themed puck series. When doors open up at 6 p.m., be sure to make your way to the Kids ‘N Community Foundation kiosk (across from section 129) to purchase your St. Patrick’s Day Mystery autographed puck. The puck is green and features a Hurricanes pot of gold. All of our holiday themed pucks have sold out so far this year before game time, so be sure to plan your game night accordingly!
Also, don’t forget that you can show your heart by representing the loudest house in the NHL with pride and passion at every home.
