We are just over half-way through the Beard-A-Thon 48-hour drive to $55,000. When we began the incentive propelled fundraising push, we were hovering around $45,000. Nearly 26 hours later, we are approaching $47,700. Thank you to all who have registered your beard, sent out pledge requests/updated your contacts, donated to beards, and/or had people pledge your beard. Remember that all of you are automatically entered into a raffle to win one of four prizes:
  • an Official 2006 Stanley Cup Game Seven (replica) Puck signed by Eric Staal
  • a Replica Carolina Hurricanes Stick signed by Tuomo Ruutu
  • an 8x10 glossy photograph autographed by Scott Walker
  • an 8x10 glossy photograph autographed by assist hero Ray Whitney

I have to say, these are some incredible prizes. In the mix, you’ve got the Round 1 – Game 7 goal scoring hero Eric Staal, the Round 2 – Game 7 game winning goal scorer Scott Walker, the Round 2 – Game 7 game winning goal assist hero Ray Whitney, and our favorite hard-nose, hard-hitting Fin Tuomo Ruutu.

Don’t forget that a 2008-2009 Team Signed Replica Carolina Hurricanes Stick is the grand prize that will be awarded to the beard grower who raises the most money during the 48-hour time period. You have about 22 hours left, so there’s time to make one final push.

Our goal for the 48-hour drive is $55,000. We have lofty expectations for the Caniacs, but only because we know we are the best (and loudest) fans in the NHL. Of the four teams left in the playoffs, we are second in fundraising behind Pittsburgh ($78,000). Chicago and Detroit round out the final four teams with $16,551 and $12,261, respectively.

I am personally participating in the Beard-A-Thon. Thankfully, I cannot physically grow a beard, but I have even increased my pledges and even donated to other beard growers. My page is a little desperate and literally screams “pledge me,” but just remember that it is about the kids in our area who need our help. The money we’ve raised thus far is going to have a tremendous impact in our community, and hopefully we can make that impact even greater.

Below is an update of the top 10 player beards and the overall top five fundraisers (including our very own Doug Warf). Be sure to watch the game tonight, pick out your favorite beard and pledge it before 12:00 tomorrow.
