The Jimmy V golf tournament makes its return to Raleigh this weekend and the Canes will be well represented on NC State’s new Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Playing in this weekend’s tournament will be Rod Brind’Amour, Erik Cole, Joe Corvo, Chad LaRose and John Forslund.
The Canes have supported the Jimmy V Foundation as they raise money for cancer research since our 1997 debut in North Carolina.
For those of you who do not know, the Jimmy V Foundation is one of top Cancer research funding foundations in America. Though they fund grants in 38 different states, a large portion of their funding stays right here in the Triangle.
They are hosting a “Wine and Dine” dinner Friday night at the Raleigh Convention Center that will highlight their work with local universities like Duke, UNC and NC State.
On top of our players playing in the tournament, the Canes have donated several high-end, unique auction items that will be used at the “Wine and Dine” auction on Friday as well as the “Gala” that is hosted Saturday night. If you are attending either of those events, keep your eyes out for some awesome Canes items like an Eric Staal game-worn jersey or a chance to visit John Forslund and Tripp Tracy in the broadcast booth.
For more information about the tournament itself, visit their web site at www.golfclassic.org/ You can purchase $5 tickets through Ticketmaster, or you can pick up complimentary tickets at most local Applebee’s locations.
If you are around Raleigh Sunday, you should definitely come out to the tournament to check out which participating Cane is the best golfer. If you have never been, it is always a great event where the Canes players and other celebrities are very accessible and interactive with the attendees (hopefully the player’s golf balls are not “interactive” with the gallery).
See you at the course.
