RALEIGH, NC—Carolina Hurricanes left wing Erik Cole will drop the puck for the opening game of the Ironcam Hockey Tournament on Saturday, March 24 at Dream Sports Center in Apex at 1 p.m. The Ironcam Hockey Tournament will raise money for the Cameron Wall Assistance Fund, which benefits the family of a 14-year old Cary boy who suffered a spinal injury in a skiing accident in December.
More than 40 teams are expected to compete for medals on Saturday during the tournament, and opening ceremonies will begin at 12:30 p.m. In addition to Cole’s appearance, Hurricanes television play-by-play announcer John Forslund will emcee the opening ceremonies and Hurricanes mascot Stormy will be in attendance. A silent auction will be held from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m. featuring Hurricanes tickets, sports memorabilia, weekend getaways, day spa certificates, portable DVD players and more. Food will be provided by Dunkin’ Donuts, Chick-fil-A, Danny’s Barbecue, Bear Rock Café and It’s a Grind Coffee.
Cameron Wall broke his neck and suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury on Dec. 28. He is currently being treated at a spinal cord rehabilitation center in Atlanta, where Hurricanes players Eric Staal
, Cam Ward
