GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes attempt to tie the franchise record with their fifth consecutive home win as they take on the Colorado Avalanche at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, a game nationally televised on espn2. The Hurricanes current four-game home winning streak is the longest since the 1996-97 season, when the team won four straight home games to start the season in Hartford. The franchise record is a five-game streak from March 17-29, 1985.

CAROLINA NOTES:
Carolina winger Jeff O’Neill has 11 points in his last 11 games and has found the net in seven of those games (12/9-12/31; 7g, 4a). Hurricanes winger Sami Kapanen has scored 13 points (7g, 6a) in the last 14 games. Carolina goaltender Arturs Irbe appeared in his 26th consecutive game Wednesday night. The previous franchise record was 24, set by Irbe during the 1999-2000 season. Irbe has started 25 consecutive games.

HURRICANES VS. COLORADO NOTES:
The Carolina Hurricanes meet the Colorado Avalanche Saturday night for the second and final time of the 2000-01 regular season. The Avalanche defeated Carolina 5-3 on November 3 at the Pepsi Center. The Hurricanes and the Avalanche met two times last season, with Colorado winning both games with the help of now-Carolina Hurricane defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh. Ozolinsh led all scorers with three points (2g, 1a) in the two games last season. The Hurricanes are 41-62-20 all-time against Colorado and are 24-25-11 on home ice.

HURRICANES VS. ISLANDERS NOTES:
The Carolina Hurricanes meet the New York Islanders on Sunday for the second of four games this season. The Islanders came from behind to defeat the Hurricanes 2-1 at Nassau Coliseum on December 19. Sami Kapanen had Carolina’s lone goal in that meeting. The Hurricanes won three of four games against the Islanders last season, and Jeff O’Neill was the leading scorer in the series with six points (1g, 5a) in four games. Carolina holds a 33-32-9 overall advantage in the all-time series against the Islanders.

CAROLINA INJURY UPDATE:
Shane Willis missed the Hurricanes game against the Tampa Bay on Wednesday due to back spasms. He is expected to play this weekend.
Rod Brind’Amour suffered a groin injury during the second period of the game against the Rangers (12/27). He is probable for this weekend’s games.
Sandis Ozolinsh had surgery on his knee on Friday. He will be out of the lineup for two weeks.
