CAROLINA HURRICANES TO HOST 2000 WALKAMERICA

RALEIGH, NC (March 30, 2000) -- Jim Cain, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today the Entertainment and Sports Arena will host the 30th Annual March of Dimes WalkAmerica fundraiser, a five-kilometer or 10-kilometer walk involving over 3000 participants, on Saturday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m.

WalkAmerica will be held at the parking lot of the Entertainment and Sports Arena, serving as the start and finish of the walk, as well as the site of the day’s festivities. Early registration begins at 9:00 a.m. on April 29th in the parking lot and the walk begins at 10:00 a.m. For further information, contact Peggy Sue Hawkins at (919) 467-7825, ext. 5201.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services education and advocacy to save babies.

WalkAmerica, the organization’s biggest fundraiser, has raised more than $1 billion since 1970 to help prevent birth defects, low birth weight, and infant death. The event will take place in 1400 communities nationwide, including all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. More than nine million men, women, and children will participate as sponsors, volunteers, or walkers – nearly 750,000 are expected to walk.
