Hurricanes Agree to Contract Terms with Third Round Pick
Of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
RALEIGH, NC (MARCH 26, 2000) – Jim Rutherford, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the team has agreed to contract terms with Erik Cole. The contract is a multi-year agreement. As per club policy, no contract terms were disclosed.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Erik,” stated Rutherford. “He has enjoyed a solid college career at Clarkson where he averaged a point a game. He now will have the opportunity to come to our camp next season as he takes his first step in his professional hockey career.”
Cole, 21, was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the third round (71st overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He recently completed his third season at Clarkson. A left wing, Cole (6’0”, 190 lbs.), led Clarkson in goals and points this season with 20 goals and 10 assists for a total of 30 points in the regular season. In his collegiate career, Cole scored 103 points (53g, 50a) in 103 regular season games. A native of Oswego, New York, Cole was the third player the Hurricanes drafted in the 1998 Entry Draft.
